Thinmail Corporation Selects Voxeo to Power its Email-to-Phone Service
Orlando, FL - September 09, 2002 -- Voxeo Corporation, the leader in integrated voice services,
today announced that Thinmail Corporation of Massachusetts has selected Voxeo to power its Thinphone™
service, a two-way bridge between email and telephones.
Thinphone™ allows people to send email which dials a phone and reads the message or plays an attached
audio file, then collects an audio response from the recipient. This combines the power and simplicity
of email with the immediacy and ubiquity of the telephone.
By enabling its customers to treat any telephone as an email recipient with an address such
as 8005551212@thinphone.com, Thinphone™ extends the power of mailing lists to simultaneously call
up many people at the same time. Thinphone™ has both personal and business uses.
"We are working with Voxeo because we rely on constant innovation, and the company's technical
prowess in the field is phenomenal," said Jordan Pollack, Founder of Thinmail. "We need to scale our voice
services very quickly, and Voxeo's Voice Centers, much like the data center where we host our web servers,
provide the same kind of bulletproof connectivity and reliability for our telephony applications."
"Voxeo is pleased to be working with Thinmail to deliver novel services" said Jonathan Taylor, Founder
and CEO of Voxeo. "Thinmail's technology, which enables multimedia files to be managed from anywhere, is
one of those simple but effective innovations which could have a big impact."
The two companies' founders, Jonathan Taylor and Jordan Pollack, met at Esther Dyson's PC Forum.
Taylor is a computer/telephony expert who pioneered unified messaging on the Internet and founded Voxeo
as his 3rd company at age 28. Pollack is a computer scientist widely known for his work in artificial
intelligence and robotics, for which he was named one of MIT Technology Review's TR 10 in 2001.
